So, if you had a directory with files that use over half the partition space and moved those to a new directory, then du for the 2 directories would total more than the partition size? BTW, I remember the days of exceeding my quota on a Novell Netware server, because I had so many files. The admin suggested I delete some but I told them I couldn't as they were company records with important information that had to be maintained for years.
