Alan, which is the pick up roller? Can you help me understand where I should be looking? And do I need to disassemble the printer to find this roller you mention?
I am not getting marks on the printed pages. But the paper jams after about an inch and a half has come out the back and onto the paper rest that is formed when the rear door is open. And it jams even more often if I have the rear door closed so that the paper comes up into the tray on top.
There are supposed to be two semi-transparent rollers in the back where the paper exits the printer, each held on with a small wire retainer. One of those rollers has come off, and I can see where that roller is broken. I suspect this is the problem. The technician I spoke to recommended replacing the entire rear roller system.
The paper pick up roller is located where you put the paper stack ready to start printing. If you remove the paper (new) and look down the gap you should see the little roller, some times it is half moon shape others it is round, it usually has a grey rubber tire around it. This gets worn down from rubbing on the paper but can also get clogged with paper dust which causes the roller to slip on the paper and not feed it through correctly. Try cleaning all rollers in the paper path with a lightly damped cloth to remove the paper dust that has obviously built up over time. Alan
