I recently bought a newer, go-faster-stripier computer, which I specifically requested have the hard drive partitioned into two pieces so I could easily install Linux. (One side for business, one side for pleasure.) However, attempting to actually install Linux on it has, so far, been a failure. It doesn't seem to get very far before it just freezes up-- right after checking the hard drives, I think. (I can copy down the last several lines of text before it freezes, if that'd be useful.) Even trying to start it in safe mode gets no love.
I don't really know what to check-- I'm no computer expert, just someone who appreciates Linux's stability and security-- so hand-holding would be appreciated. I can't get my hands on a copy of 9.1 right at the moment, so suggesting that won't really help. Please help! XP is much nicer than 98, but I'll feel safer with Linux...
We need more info about your hardware. Size of drive, motherboard, IDE (ATA)/ SATA and stuff like that.
