So far copying the the original odb files across directly from the cifs mount generates no problems, but I do not want to store these files locally.
I have come across no references to this particular problem in searching. My samba config is now not entirely sane with the various things I have tried out and before I ditch the idea as unworkable, I am just wondering whether anyone else has come across this, and if so did they fix it (and how)?.
Just to make live more interesting just did the online update which included a kernel patch.... which seems to have broken cifs mounting completely.... The contents of... /proc/fs/cifs ... had been set to read only, and had to be reset read/write so I could get the following debug output...

now before the kernel update this was not a problem :-( The samba server is receiving nothing so the connection is now broken at this end somewhere.... If anyone else is using cifs be warned....got to look at this further. grrrrr..... - -- ============================================================================== I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
