I don't know if COM and DCOM comes from CORBA,
It doesn't.
With COM and ActivX the API gives your app access to the memory space of the ActiveX component, which again use a shared system bus. If you plug into the Windows system bus, you can see all messages gong around. You can intercept messages meant for other applications,
Complete rubbish. Windows is a full fledged protected mode OS, applications are very much shielded from each other -
Sorry, I disagree with this. I have seen many, many times a single Windows progtam crash and bring down every other program running together with the OS itself. This can happen in Linux but is rare...very rare. To the issue of a GUI firewall. Has nobody set up webmin for a firewall? That would/could be just what people who use Windows firewalls are looking for. I could be wrong but aren't all the things seen by something like Zone Alarm for Windows already in log files waiting to be checked? It would appear this way from my knowledge of Windows firewalls. Personally, I'll take the Linux style of firewall anyday thank you. -- ============================================== I am only human, please forgive me if I make a mistake it is not deliberate. ============================================== Xmas may be over but, PLEASE DON'T drink and drive you'll make it to the next one that way.
