Hi Wolfi,
Thanks for your reply. I'll read the info and look at the hpoj lists that
you recommended. I have an OfficeJet K60xi and I'm using the lpr spooler.
Are you suggesting that CUPS is easier to deal with than lprold? I'll give
it a try also.
Regards.

Hello,
Hi Juan,
I'm new to linux. I just installed SuSE7.3. Installation went very well. YaST2 correctly detected my USB OfficeJet printer; however, the printer doesn't respond to any print requests. I looked at SuSE's online database and added the two missing directories: /dev/ptal-mlcd and /dev/ptal-printd. I also modified /etc/rc.config to include the following line: INITRD_MODULES="reiserfs usbcore usb-uhci". So far, nothing seems to work.
This is just the beginning:-) Read the stuff which is in the /usr/share/doc/packages/hp-officeJet/ directory and follow these endless instructions:-) It might help to use the newest kernel, either the officially released 2.4.16 from the update directory, or the most recent kernel which is in the /people/mantel/next/rpm directory on the ftp server. If you don't get it working, then help might be found on the OfficeJet developing list < hpoj-devel@lists.sourceforge.net > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/hpoj-devel ... but rather not here on this list. Which print spooler are you trying to use? It appears to me, that there are more experiences with lprold than with cups, though cups _normally_ works easier and better.
P.S. does anyone know if this problem is corrected in version 8.0?
Include it in your prayers:-) They said they would try to do so. I have my OfficeJet V30 unemployed, and I will restart configuration with 8.0, I promised to myself, no earlier, to avoid further waste of time. To make matters worse, I have usb-ohci on my box, that's more difficult than usb-uhci (*) ... that's what David Paschal told me, the Linux-OJ software maintainer, you will hear from him on the list mentioned above. Maybe you could try Mandrake 8.2, they said that they would have it working in that release (NOTE: they said so. This doesn't mean a lot IMHO). Which OfficeJet model are you trying to use ??
Thanks.
Cheers ... Wolfi ============================================= mailto:wolfi_z@yahoo.com
(*) You haven't got a choice which usb driver to use. It depends on your chipset.
