The latest nVidia driver that one is to install from nVidia after the kernel update just posted and installed by YOU, is NOT usable and WON'T install!! I hope SuSE is working on this, as 3D is "GONE" because of this error. Some have very slow systems now.

The latest Nvidia drivers numbered 4496 seem to be causing problems to subscribers of this list. I was also unable to compile and install the drivers. Recently, however, the kernel on this machine was compiled and installed. After this, the Nvidia drivers compiled and installed without a problem.
This is not an elegent solution but one way of installing the latest drivers.

Actually on the suse site their is a link to a support page in the /supplimentary/X/XFree86/nvidia-installer-HOWTO that describes this. Essentially it goes like: cd /usr/src/linux make cloneconfig && make dep (then, 'cause I'm paranoid I do a mk_initrd) Then issue the command export IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH=yes then sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2.run And it should work. The link is at: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/X/XFree86/nvidia-installer-HOWTO.html Also in a text file.
