SuSe 7.0 does not have built in support for on ATA100. You will need to enter the I/O at the boot prompt before installation.
linux ide2=0x8400, 0x8002 ide3=0x7400, 0x7002
Those are the valuse on my system If you are dual booting with Win you can get the yours from the Device Mgr. There should be 4 listed,a,b,c,d The formula for the command is ide2=(a), (b+2) ide3=(c), (d+2)
Thanks Charles. That sounds like the problem. A question (this is my first time installing linux, although I've been a Unix user for a while):
1) How can I get to the boot prompt if I can't boot? Can I get there if I boot off the Suse CD?
2) You suggested entering the I/O info at the boot prompt. Is there a file I could add it to so that I could boot normally?
Sorry if I did not make it clear. I was speaking of using the installation disk. At the installation splash screen boot: will show at the bottom of the screen. Key the command there and press enter the SuSE install will begin. The only dumb questions are those which are not asked. Charles (-: Forever never goes beyond tomorrow.
