Wow, You have some work again. Prolly haven't had this much to do since you trolled OS/2 newgroups and lists back in the 90's. * Dwaine Felch (dwainef@earthlink.net) [020216 09:12]: ->Linux upgrades are bug fixes for the previous buggy OS, in case you are too ->blind to see that. No free upgrades from M$, what do you call each ->version of Explorer. Well, yes. They do fix bug with each upgrade and they do add features and the like to SuSE (linux is the kernel) And if you wish to pay for it you can or you can do like myself and just download the updates as provided. I'm still running SuSE 7.2 at work and it completely up to date..guess what...I never PAID a dime for those updates. I downloaded them and installed them. That's the neat thing about open source software is that you can update the software yourself for free or if you wish to pay for "convience" you can spend the $50 (not $100) for the CD's and new version of the books. You however had to pay for Windows 98 and Windows98SE which were no more then bug fixes...and you paid a lot more. You got a lot less as well. Did you get a compiler? Did you get a full developers suite with your OS? I think not. I think you got a barebones OS and would have to pay for it all. Did you get a full set of network utilities and all the server software to make one of your boxes a server and one a workstation? Oh that's right. You can't install the software on more then one machine legally or the BSA will come and take your first born child. Your upgrade arguement is weak and not very well thoughtout. *Ding* Try again. ->Security holes? I have an inbox full of linux security updates just in the ->last month, M$ security holes are widely advertised and linux holes ->are overlooked by the media. Please don't pull this crap. You know as well as I do that when a "security hole" is found in something like say...OpenSSH it's in OpenSSH and all Unix/Linux machines running this piece of software are vulnerable. And it's on ONE bug that effects everybody. Most of these lists of bugs are all the announcements from all the distributions to their users that a piece of software they shipped had this vunerablity. If you don't know that these sites you are referencing add up all of them together and then pit them against the bug reports from Microsoft then you are worse off then I thought. You can't lump RH, SuSE and Mandrake together and count all their bugs together because 9-10 times they are a bug in the same exact piece of software which means it's only one bug in a piece of software they ALL use. Your logic is flawed .. go back to Vulcan for retraining *buzzer*. ->One independent government study showed linux had more holes than Mac or ->Win2k. Please provide a URL..because "One Goverment study" is vague and doesn't prove anything. The Canadian Goverment studied if penguins fallover backwards when planes go by..so I have little faith in the label "Government study". ->In my 20 years as a IT specialist I have tested more different OSs and ->computer hardware configurations than your shallow mind could ever dream ->of. I enjoy a healthy different opinion that is how we learn. Your ->intolerance to someone else experience probably gets you nowhere in life. Well, I guess my intolerence of you people will just destroy the six figure salary I make. I guess I'll have to do what the MCSE's at work do and spend hours and hours running around chasing phantoms in the software that they can never hope to fix because they don't have source. I guess I'll return to not getting a good night sleep. I guess I'll have to reimage machines every 4-6 months because my environment just corrupts itself for no bloody reason at all. I guess I'll have to have an SLA about 5 nines uptime instead of just expecting 5 nines. I guess my OS will just be able to handle 500-600 accounts instead of the 100's of 1000's that my Sun boxes do. I guess I'll have to give up a cluster uptime of 6 years and go for 6 days like the Windows guys. I guess I'll get up at 1am every night and drive into the data centre to fix a simple problem and I'll give up my remote terminal server access which keeps me in my Pj's and not in the car. I guess I give up my truely boring, well working world for a "life". If you think that someone with the attitude of screw Microsoft won't amount to anything. I would say it's you who are blind. The engineering community has suffered through Managements choices of bad software long enough. We are intolerant..of crap. Yes, well..In my 15 years around computers the last 10 of which have been in corp. America..most people there just make fun of IT. While we in Engineering are busy actually working with technology. You people seem to want to run around fixing virus infections due to faulty software..you come in at 8:30am and leave at 5:30pm and don't really don't touch computers after work. This is my experience with IT. You really shouldn't make personal attacks like "shallow mind". You have to realize that you maybe talking to a very intelligent person who just doesn't want to deal with your trolling about the wonders of Microsoft software. I was "tolerant" if that's what you want to call it of you people when you came around on the OS/2 lists. I'm "tolerant" of you at work and I tolerate your ignorance in the market place. What I won't be tolerant of is you coming into a forum that I've been a part of for the better part of 5 years and just talking a bunch of shite. We don't care about Microsoft hence the name of the list. And we don't care to be insulted by someone who can not do any real research and provide fact instead of opinion. We will not be tolerant anymore of stupid people and with agenda's to keep themselves in their comfort zones which cause issues for the rest of us. And to tell the truth. I wish the list admin would just remove you. We have strived for a topic based list for the last year or so. And defending Microsoft and calling people who are sick of it "shallow minds" is SO far off topic it's not funny. Hey! Look .. I think your W2K box just got Nimda..better go shut it up...
