I did that, but still have a problem on 9.0, I reckon it may be to do with the 2.6 kernel (2.6.1-rc1-mm1). There was quite a bit of controversy between folk in the kernel mailing list regarding cdrecord and its use of ide-scsi which Linus and others think is an evil hotchpotch that has to be got rid of as the IDE driver supports CD burinig to IDE devices. xcdroast works equally well, so I'm happy using it.
