Thanks Patrick. Its just the detection of a printer on the USB thats not happy. I've checked the "Hardware information" via Yast and it shows that the printer is detected and correctly identified. It just seems Yast and CUPS are not checking USB for printers.
Did you check to see if you had the "filters" packages installed. It won't hurt anything and might still solve. I didn't check my printer in yast or cups as I use hplip which provides that service. I could not print until I installed the "filters" package.
i use Samsungs Unviversal drivers and it finds them okay if i try to assign a driver to the fictious serial or parallel port device.
But you do use cups. Do you have the filter packages installed? NOT ANSWERED yes, sorry. i have all installed. CUPS and Yast suffer the same fate whereby
