My 64-bit laptop is still running SuSE 9.3 taht i had installed at the actory about 6 months ago. I haven't had the guts to update for fear to clash with unknown non-standard h/w components. Andre Truter, whose name probably sounds familiar as he's a pretty active Linux registered engineer, has chacked my laptop h/d inventory and reassured me that its components (wire and wireless network cards, etc.) are known to SuSE database. ... still I'm shaking ...
I can't speak for laptops, but I've not had issues with 9.3 or 10.0. Then again, it depends on what you have installed...
Actually I've contacted the local CompUSA, Best Buy, Circui City stores looking for SuSE Pro 10.0 and 10.1. Surprisingly they do not carry it. I've always got all new SuSE version at CompUSA in St.Louis MO as well as in Knoxville TN ...
Strange, our (DE) CompUSA has had all of them. Can't say for the others. I'm not a fan of BB or CC. Amazon sells 10.1 for $54 - free shipping. Novel should also have it on their site. Amazon also has 10.0. Personally (and I think many on the list would agree) I would go with 10.0 for now. Remember, there is no "pro" now. The version you download isn't the same as what you can buy. Some stuff is missing.
I've strte to downl;oad SuSE 10.0 but it's going to take forever ... I do not think thsi is the way to go for me. Where can find the familiar SuSE green box (I hope they haven't change its color in the meantime ) ?
You could have someone burn you a set of disks and send them to you... Don't you have any place you can go to down load for free? A local community college? A Library? I know of salesman that need to check their email when on the road and they drive into any neighborhood and just grab anyone's wireless they can find. I've found wireless in business parks.
