Copying video between two Seagate ST31500341AS disks with ext3 filesystems I get about 77.8 MB/sec.
The german magazine c't (http://ct.de) just tested the new USB3.0 external 4TB Seagate STAC4000200 GoFlex, which should be about the fastest 3.5", 7.2k min^-1 SATA drive currently available. Sustained reads (min/avg/max): 84 / 138 / 178 MByte/s Sustained writes (min/avg/max): 50 / 101 / 177 MByte/s Problem is, the disk has no fan and after 100 GB or so it gets so hot (63°C) that write speeds go down to 50 MB/s as the disk does a "read after write" when it gets so hot ...
