I tried to access keychain memory device in a USB port, as I have done many times before, but the device was unrecognized; it does not appear in the Disk Information column in the Konqueror /sys page, where it has always been listed in the past.
I opened the /etc/fstab file to inspect it, but was informed that there is already a fsab.swp file, and I must use the vim ":recover" command. I used the RECOVER option of vim, and was told that recovery was successful , and that I must now delete fstab.swp.
The recovery operation added he line: "/dev/sr0 /media>". I assume I must now extend that line with "dos rw,user 0 0". Is that correct?

Stan, A better way to handle plugable filesystem devices is to define them in /etc/auto.misc and let the automounter deal with them. You can define similar options here as in fstab, including mounting by label or uuid. The problem with including them in fstab is that if you reboot the machine with them missing (i.e. not plugged in) mount will complain and unnecessary errors will be reported during booting. I do this with an external usb HDD that I use as an external backup for /home. If I leave this drive powered on at the initial boot, my machine hangs during POST. If I didn't power it up before mount looked for it (when it was in fstab), I'd get boot time errors. Once I figured out that it belonged in auto.misc, no more problems. I can power it up after the machine is booted and I'm logged in and it is consistently mounted to the same mount point (/media/backup). To avoid rewriting my backup script I simply then created a symlink to the original mount point that I used to have in fstab. Hope this helps.
