suse82 partitioner won't recognise the HD (BUG??)

      I am trying to install SuSe8.2 on a empty IBM 30GB IDE HD.
Yast2 reports the HD as 1.7 GB. (locations 0-256)

I have tried to partition the HD with DOS Fdisk and then install the 
suse8.2,
this time it only recognised the first partition only.

Is there a know bug about this?
Or better is there a work-around?
