I've read lots of it, and my post a few minutes ago showing the problem as SOLVED should verify that. But nowhere in what I read did I find an explicit statement that ntpd queries the time servers once an hour to update the drift file, though the ntpd description does state that the drift file is somehow updated hourly (more or less). I finally concluded indirectly that this had to be the case. Can you point me to such an explicit statement? It was the lack of that explicit statement that was bugging me and led to all my questioning. Paul
