I agree, it has been quiet. I am a Suse newbie although I've been using linux for a while (redhat, slackware) and, to be honest, when I first installed Suse (5.3). I really did not like it; it was different from the distro's I know. After having gotten Informix SE/ESQLC working (the reason I chose Suse) and DBD::Informix. I must say I am starting to really warm to it. It is a very good distribution, and I can't tell you how good it is to see quick responses from the Suse development team on this mailing list. Mind you, I still have some issues that drive me crazy; I still can't build WindowMaker (even after a reinstall and checking the wraster.h situation) or BitchX (missing libnsl) but, overall, I think I'll stay with this distribution and recommend it to others. Keep up the good work. -darrel On Fri, 11 Sep 1998, Steve Mills wrote:
I've been listening to this group about 2 weeks now.
A few rookies ( I hate that newbies word) such as myself have asked the usual questions and had great responses. I've watched higher level interchanges between some obviously very experienced folk.
Something is missing.
This is a new release, this 5.3. There seem to be no major problems with it. Am I right? Other than something about sound and a syntax error, I haven't heard of a really difficult problem. We can even talk tomatoes, there's so much room.
My hat is off to the SuSE development team. Even THIS Windows pup can install 5.3. The Linux community needs to see what a really great distribution looks like. I can hardly wait to see what happens next.
Danke schoen.
