Are you only on this mailing list?
I am on many mailing lists, where people from many different countries
enter their names in their own language, and my Emacs-based MUA
displays them as they appear.
Your saying, in English, was criticized a long time ago (especially by
the French people) and has been greatly relaxed, no?
I remember those days......
