Okay, thanks for clarification. I just checked on Leap 42.1 and the /var/log/journal directory was created on install and logs *were* persistent. Either the behaviour was different for me on a different box where I last ran Leap 42.1, or I am remembering details from TW as I switch between the two a lot. I can verify that on my TW box, /var/log/journal *did not* exist and I never touched anything or deleted it. I just created /var/log/journal, and now the journal is persistent and it's no longer being written to /run/log/journal. I will install openSUSE-Leap-42.2-DVD-x86_64-Build0188-Media.iso on the test box to see what I find, but on the 422 beta which was on the test machine earlier that I tested, those logs were not persistent.
