I am wondering what package would have required me to install systemd-logger? I didn't do it intentionally. I don't know if it is better or not. Now that I have limited the file size, it seems to be running more smoothly.
I suspect systemd-logger is the default unless you opt to install a syslog daemon. {rsyslog,syslog-ng}
Yes, it should.
It is a good thing to keep persistent logs, and they should be either the systemd journal, as is the default now, or syslog, as was the default some time ago.
2 GB of logs is quite big. It means that there is something that talks a lot.
I think there was something going on in my system that I have fixed now, but it will be hard to know if that is why my logs were so big now that I have limited the file size. For the last few months, I have continually been getting degraded raid events on all my raided drives. I finally figured out that I had a bad power supply that was intermittently cutting out power to the hard drives. I figured this out also by swapping out with new hard drives from time to time that I was pretty sure were good drives, but the degraded raid event seemed to be happening anyway. I don't know for sure, but having degraded raid events, then having the raid drives restored, then having them degrade event, multiple times over several months - well, that's bound to affect other systems, right? Which would cause the logs to be working overtime whenever any kind of anomalous event happened, right? So I purchased a new power supply for my desktop, with a little more wattage, and I am no longer getting the degraded raid events. That was about 3 days before I tried to upgrade the kernel and found that my root partition was too full. Now, hopefully, my system will calm down. I have not had any more degraded raid events. -- George Box: 42.1 | KDE Plasma 5 | AMD Phenom IIX4 | 64 | 32GB Laptop #1: 42.1 | Plasma 5.4.7, Qt 5.7.0 | Core i7-4710HQ | 64 | 16GB Laptop #2: 42.1 | KDE Plasma 5 | Core i5 | 64 | 8GB -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
