I haven't I wanted to be sure before doing so, as this machine has been always on the upgrade track, hence the last clean os install was probably 3 years ago.

Ok, could you please raise that issue as a bug @mozilla.org and let us/me know the bug id? In addition I'll check what to do with the default options if it's really turned on w/o notification.
