How can I find out where the problem really is? What tests can I do?
You could try the 'fish://' ioslave (which implements secure file transfer over an ssh shell session for servers that don't use the sftp module of ssh). If it works normally either we have a problem in the sftp ioslave or the provider has a problem with their sftp module. To find out which of those is the case I suggest you try testing sftp:// and fish:// connections to a different ssh server - your own, maybe?
