Why should we care?
Well, I think a DWIM (do what I mean) parser would be of utmost importance for Linux. Impossible you say? Why should I care?
If we press shift-F6 it must do the same regardless of key map or where you are, text mode or X. It is shift-F6 everywhere.
Because some things are near to impossible. What if it clashes with default key mapping? Do you also want Alt-F2 to open a window on console, ALT-F4 to end a console Program ? Hmm, Alt-F something switches between console sessions ... As nice at it woud seem, it's nearly impossible to achieve.
