Long ago I got the first Spanish edition of the Tanenbaum "operating systems" book. The last part of the book had a printed copy of the Minix source code. I had no means of downloading it. I actually considered hand typing the two hundred pages or so. It was the closest thing I dreamt of trying some thing close to Unix.
Back when I first got my IMSAI 8080, I bought 3 books from Scelbi, for monitor, editor and assembler, which were essentially source code and both octal & hex listings. I had to manually toggle in the octal for the monitor and then save to cassette, just to get things going. I later did the same with their "SCELBAL" BASIC interpreter, but since I had the monitory running then, I was able to type, rather than toggle in the octal listing. Later on, I had the editor and assembler working, so I could then type in the source code. I also built that computer from a box full of parts. Back then, you really knew your computer inside, out. :-) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMSAI_8080 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCELBI -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
