Since reinstalling Skype 4.0 on this oS 12.2 system running KDE 4.8.5 there has been no sound output for receiving calls or ringing. It all worked on the previous 12.1 system.

I faced a similar problem and the solution is to install the -32bit version of the following libraries: alsa-plugins-pulse, libpulse0, and libpulse-mainloop-glib0. I am not sure whether the latter is actually needed.
I also have libpulse-mainloop-glib0 installed, but I don't know whether it was always there or whether it got pulled when I installed alsa-plugins-pulse-32bit, which solved the problem for me.
I have also opened https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=780907
I don't think that bug describes my problem, which was no sound output at all from skype. I think the problem is in the skype-n.n.n.n-suse.i586.rpm packaging.
