I posted a question yesterday about getting a SCSI tape drive to work. I am curious if anyone has any troubleshooting advice on working with an external SCSI tape drive, or if anyone has an idea on where to go to troubleshoot this message "st0: try direct i/o: yes(alignment 512 B(, map page reachable by HBA 1048575" it would be greatly appriciated. It appears that everything is "found" in the system, and I want to add that the hardware works with Redhat 7.1. The only thing I have found so far Googling is that their was a person who had a similar issue with a test 2.6 kernel, but there was no anwer to his problem. I wonder if this is a bug in the kernel???? Either way, here is my previous post with some info on the hardware, and what I have done. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------old post------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I hope someone can help with this. I have been working with a tape drive(s) on and off for a few days now and can't seem to get mine to work in SuSe 9.1 It works with RedHat 7.1 and Arcserve.... Here is my hardware. I have a 3ware controller that does all my hard drives. It works great I have an Adaptec 29160 controller that has an external SEAGATE DDS4 DAT tape drive attached. The tape drive is the only SCSI device attached to the card. It is terminated after the tape drive. When the system boots it sees the tape drive and SCSI card. If I run YAST hardware info it displays the tape drive as DAT 06240-XXX Bus: scsi class (spec): Tape class: mass storage device ... (more stuff) Device Name /dev/st0 Driver aic7xxx Model SEAGATE DAT 062400XXX .... more stuff sysfs_bus)id 1:0:5:0 After the system boots, in my /var/log/warn file I get Attached scsi tape st0 at scsi1, changel 0, id5, lun 0 st0: try direct i/o: yes(alignment 512 B(, map page reachable by HBA 1048575 If I run mt -f /dev/st0 status I get the following (then the console locks, never to return) driver type = Generic SCSI-2 tape drive status - 637434720 sense key error = 0 residue count = 0 file number = -1 b lock number = -1 Tape block size 512 bytes. Density code = 0x26 (unknown) Soft error cound since last status = 0 General status bits on (10100000): ...... The system just locks, and my /var/log/warn file adds one line st0: Block limits 1 - 16777215 Is there something I am missing? Is there somewhere I can look and try and figure out what is going on? If I try and kill the mt process, I can't, and if I try anything else on /dev/st0, it says the device is busy. Thanks in advance
