I got no response from this inquiry but I at least Know now that the problem lies in the sh_utils package. I'm running 6.3 but if I take the sh_utils package from my 6.2 CD's, this problem goes away. The updated version from the SuSe update site is no help here. The package sh_utils holds 20-30 seperate programs. I'm not sure which one is the culprit. I bet SuSE knows which one it is. Any one out there got any ideas. I of coarse won't run my system with the older sh_utils package as I'm sure it would bite me somewhere. I guess I could take one pgm at a time and find out which one it is. I'm just hoping someone (SUSE???) out there might have an idea.. Thanks..

I have found the problem the command "susewmif kernel en" It's because of changes to the "who" command. The 2.0 vers of the sh-utils "who" command no longer ouputs the terminal or console name associated with it. The output of the who command in 6.2 (sh_utils_1.6) is markh :0 Apr 4 05:56 (console) The output of the who command in 6.3 (sh_utils_2.0) is markh :0 Apr 4 05:56 hence causing the "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/susewm/startcmd/complilekernel script to fail. To fix it change the who command in the above script to "who -l" which will give the output as did the 6.2 (sh_utils_1.6) version.
