I have an HP compaq nc6220 that has a built in bluetooth module. It is an internal module that connects via USB, but I can not see it with the 'lsusb" command. I do not see any option to enable or disable Bluetooth in the BIOS.
I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to enable the bluetooth device, without having to install Windows.
Hi Andrew,
I have the HP compaq nc6000 and it has a hardware button above the top of the keyboard which switches both wireless and bluetooth on/off. OpenSUSE 10.3 just acts as if they were just plugged in or removed.
I also have the following kernel module loaded...
laptop:~ # lsmod | grep blue bluetooth 57172 8 bnep,rfcomm,l2cap,hci_usb
...and the apps running.
laptop:~ # ps -A | grep blue 2449 ? 00:00:00 bluetoothd-serv 4196 ? 00:00:02 kbluetooth
Hope this info helps a little.
Thanks for the information. I know on my laptop at one point it was working, but now it is not. I ended up installing Windows XP on a spare hard drive today and when I installed the HP Wireless Manager there was no mention at all about Bluetooth. Since I had access to an identical laptop I swapped modules and mine did not work on the other machine but the known-working module did work in my machine. Here's some more information I discovered in the process: Since these machines are very modular, the bluetooth option only appears in the BIOS when a working Bluetooth module is connected, so if your module is bad the BIOS option will disappear. Also, the Bluetooth option in the HP Wireless Manager showed up after the working module was connected. The Bluetooth module connects via USB, the connector is the closest to the front of the computer under the trackpad and the display and top casing must be removed to access the entire cable (I didn't do this today but have replaced the main boards before on this model). While it is a USB device, the connector is 8 pins and obviously there is another layer of interaction going on between the USB module and the BIOS for the ability to enable and disable the device to be present. The Bluetooth module itself is a Broadcom BCM92035NMD, HP (spare) P/N 367871-001 and is approx 8 x 20 x 4mm. FCC ID is QDS-BRCM1009, Canada IC 4324A-BRCM1009. There is a small amber LED on the board that illuminates when the module is enabled and the driver is loaded. According to a quick search this module is used in the HP notebook series: nc4000, nc6000, nw8000, nx6000, nx7000, nx8000, nx9600, tc4000, tx1000, x6000, zd8000, ze2000. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
