* Theo v. Werkhoven (twe-suse.e@ferrets4me.xs4all.nl) [020904 07:50]: :: ::Those progs can talk to one single SMTP client, yes, but when you e.g. ::have a less-then-hifi ISP mail gateway (yahoo, hotmail) then it is ::really usefull to have your own MTA that knows MX and knows how to ::deliver mail directly. ::Also when you don't like POP (passwords in plain over the line), and ::you want to receive mail directly the said MUA's won't help. The ::foremost advantage of having your own MTA running is that you control ::100% of what goes in and out (spam, virusses). ::I personally would recommend Postfix though, much easier to setup ::(specially when you don't have a plain vanilla setup), and a very ::active developer. Yes, but if one doesn't know how to set it up and it's setup badly then it makes no difference at all. All the control in the world without the knowledge to make it work properly can just get you in trouble...look at King George Wubja..he's got lots of power and control but has little idea how to make it work. ;) Sendmail isn't hard to setup these days...and I'm not sure what your talking about as far as active development. Sendmail is actively developed..and I don't have much of an issue with Sendmail developers since I know most of the Sr. developers at Sendmail in Emeryville, CA. *grin* Cheers! -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org Tell me what you believe..
