Hello tk, on Thursday, August 31, 2000 at 21:13:34 -0700, you sat in front of your keyboard and wrote:
hi all
i've successfully forced lx_suse to be installed(thanks to some of your advice), but my kernel just refused to be untared.
i've read the README file in linux-2.2.16.SuSE ( generated by lx_suse.rpm). since i've downloaded the whole kernel, i followed exactly what it says : cd /usr/src #yep my new kernel is there gzip -cd linux-2.2.16.tar.gz|tar xfv - ...to which the same error appeared: linux-2.2.16.tar.gz:not ingzip format?
how should i rectify it?
p.s. version of gzip 1.2.4-150 (suse6.4,kernel2.2.14)
hope to hear from u & thanks in advance for your help. tk
Have you checked that this file linux-2.2.16.tar.gz is really a gzipped tar archive with 'file linux-2.2.16.tar.gz'? If that don't tells you this is a gzipped tar archive, maybe you downloaded a corrupted rpm.
