Just got round to reading deps nice article on Linuxplanet (cannot believe he tried that GCC/glibc upgrade...Tried that once and it failed to compile and I did something else instead, glad I did that!) I remember hearing awhile ago how close 7.0 or 7.1 was to the LSB, is there going to be another comparison soon? If dep is on the list still, did you try checking out the portal.suse.com site? I have found it occaisonly useful. But "why" were this problems happening? Recently when I tried the tarball install it went well until I specified alsa and a couple of others (I believe one was glx, but with an Nvidia card it may have been looking for the wrong GLX). Videolan, for me, works far better than Xine. Being on the Creatures Beta they seem to have no problems, I could ask them, but it seems very much like that games at least have settled on the /usr/local/games as a directory to install to.
