In my case, I just install it when Nouveau driver is not working fine (glitches or noticeable pixellation).
Or do it the way I always do...
Open YaST > Software Repositories > Add > Community Repositories Select the nvidia repository from the list (I also always add Packman at this point) and click Next When asked, click Trust (for the keys) Do an update and the nVidia drivers will automatically be added to the system.
Doing it this way means you have a few more clicks, but, you can add in nVidia, Packman and any other Community Repository you want at the same time (I usually also add in the LibreOffice repo plus Wine CVS and a few others I use).
