How to manually set full-duplex on NIC?

      I have a RealTek NIC, supported under the rtl8139 module in SuSE 7.2.
When I initialise the network interface I get the following diag:

 kernel: eth0: Setting half-duplex based on auto-negotiated partner ability 
0000.

It seems the auto-negotiation is setting it to half-duplex for some reason.
How can I manually put the RealTek into full-duplex mode?
