It was, of course, a joke. If you believe in aversion therapy, then running as root will be no problem, since the pain of a really good, juicy mistake will simply help you become a more perfect user. Other than that, I can't say Hans' reasoning seems particularly coherent to me. Unless he, too, is joking with us. Here's the version of the "Real men ..." quip I prefer to live by: "Real men decide for themselves what it means to be a real man." Naturally, the same goes for women and other sentient creatures.
