They have a much broader variety of packages. There are packman's rpm's, James' gnome packages from usr-local-bin, some suser packages(suse users), also some beta versions of fixes brought to us by suse-people.
To give you a number for suse-8.2 the apt repository provides 300+ rpms that are not provided by SuSE. Further more many newer rpm versions _can_ be obtained. It's up to you to decide wether you want to include the apt components that provide the newer pkgs. If you want to stay safe just use the components base, update/security.
