Why are you so argumentative? Every solution to a problem that anyone posts meets with some objection from you, and you do not give up. If something does not work for you in a particular instance, then go find something that does -- but there is no need to try to negate the whole solution when it does work. If you don't wish to be bothered to try to find a solution that works for you, fine, don't bother -- but there is no need to cut the whole thing apart when it can (and does) provide a workable solution that others might want to use.
I think it is fair for me to point out the objections.

no ibus needed. And you are running 15.2, yes? It was working OK in that release, stopped working in 15.3 as well as more recent releases of TW (as posted by others).
No, I am using 15.3, see signature.
Then check to see if you have any of the many ibus packages installed; there are quite a few of them, and more than one may provide a solution to this problem. I only tested the one I found mentioned on the internet. But be certain of one thing: on *my* system (also 15.3), without ibus installed, it does not work. And it also fails to work on a lot of the TW installs, as others have reported.
I have it installed, but not running AFAIK, not needed. I can type hexcodes using Ctrl-Shift-u just fine. cer@Telcontar:~> ps afxu | grep -i ibus cer 6098 0.0 0.0 7592 728 pts/70 S+ 19:36 0:00 | | \_ grep --color=auto -i ibus cer@Telcontar:~> So, I don't have a problem entering hexcodes. Others must have a different problem impeding them using this Ctrl-Shift-u trick, but it is not me. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.3 x86_64 at Telcontar)
