I see a big green rectangle in right down field of monitor when I use SUSE 7.1 + XFree86 4.0.2 + RIVA TNT2 M64 (32M ram)

What is the green rectagle?
The rectangle is debris in the registers of the TNT cards since your last 3D session. There is some erroneous clearing of the registers when shutting the card down in 3D mode.
It is a sign that you are using a propietary binary-only XFree86 driver module. Switch to the nv driver and it will disappear. Alternatively you can bug nVidia to fix their crap, there is nothing we can do about this.
Not quote my friend :-) I have TWO XF86Config files, one for 3D using nVidias proprietary drivers, and one for 2d using the nv driver. This is what I do: vty1# rcxdm stop vty1# cd /etc/X11 vty1# cp XF86Config.3d XF86Config vty2$ startx twm ( on vty2, the X server starts, I play Quake, UT etc ) ... I stop the Xserver ( exit the twm session ) vty1# vga_reset ... wait two or three seconds, then press enter vty1# cp XF86Cofnig.2d XF86Config vty1# rcxdm start Of course, this should not be neccessary. Half an hour ago, I updated my nvdriver to the latest version, and voila, now I have 3D with 1600x1200 and without this rectangle ( oh, and if the rectangle reappears, you can get rid of it by running rcxdm stop; vga_reset; rcxdm start )
