Huh. Something funny happened here. In Thunderbird, that letter was displayed as "ü" then a separate dash above; but when I hit reply, it corrected itself to a single char. In the terminal it displays perfectly, and I can see both the dots and the line above the 'u'.
That was:
Letter 'u' Ctrl-shift-u 0308 spacebar Ctrl-shift-u 0304 spacebar
All I get is ṻ after the first spacebar, the next Ctrl-shift-u actions does not modify it.
U+0308 is "COMBINING DIAERESIS", U+0304 is "COMBINING MACRON" here.
I confess I have no idea of those letters.
I think you created "LATIN SMALL LETTER U WITH DIAERESIS AND MACRON", which ist produced by Ctrl-shift-u 01d6 spacebar here, looking like ǖ in this mail (and a tad different in Konsole).
While you are using a console(?), I'm using Konsole. Maybe that's the difference?
I am using a terminal (xfce4-terminal) sometimes. The crucial difference may be that I'm not using KDE/Plasma, but humble XFCE.
Besides, why would I enter so many keystrokes when I can do it with fewer? ;)
Oh, it is not my idea :-) I'm curious about this method, maybe there is some useful combo I can use. But for me, the compose key is better suited, and it is currently working, although via an activation method I do not like. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.3 x86_64 at Telcontar)
