Hi David I dunno about the Sony, but I use my Dell Inspiron 3700 for about 6 months (8gig, 128Meg, PIII-450) now to run SuSE 6.2 and 6.3. I use my system mainly for remote site management and software development and it is has been solid as a rock. I can't comment on the machine's suitability if you want sound.. since I hate noisy computers, and hence have never tried to configure sound on this machine. :) I have two HDD, which I use interchangeably. One has Win2K/Win95/Win98/DOS5-6.22 multiboot and the other runs SuSE. I just swap the disks depending on what I want. I left my notebook on the roof of my car about a week after I bought it.....and happily drove down the street till I heard BANG!!.... yikes! .. amazingly the Dell survived... I just had to replace part of the case and some keys and it all was well. Bazaar! hth Chris On Thu, 04 May 2000 10:09:03 -0400, David Ness wrote:
I am very happy with my instillation of SuSE 6.4 and now want to put it up on one of my portables. I have the choice of installing it on a Dell Inspiron 7500 or on a Sony Vaio N505VE. I am curious if anyone can suggest a reason why one of these choices might be better than the other, as I am pretty much free to choose. Any reported experience with either system would be helpful to me in making this choice.
