You might try to see if there is an OLD version of the adaptec module
available to use
as well as a new one. Seems to me the model you have can be qwerky as one of
my old ones was :-(
I don't have 8.0 yet, but the betas worked great. I run all SCSI with a
29160.

Thanks for the quick reply!
This freeze up situation will occur on a 'fresh' or 'clean' install too. It
freezes at such an early point in the
YAST process that it never gets to 'look' at the HD contents.
Also bear in mind that this PC has a working 7.2 Pro system installed which
is working well; and
it boots from the 7.2 CD1 w/o error also.

Hello,
This is not to discourage upgrade installs but just my personal preference. I *allways* backup to a CD and then do a *fresh* install. That gives YaST2 a chance to query and use it's findings. This gives you a picture of what the OS sees for HW and if you have for example ...SCSI issues, IRQ issues, etc., and then you can fix them before installing. There are many who need to upgrade and I think there is some help via e-mail for users who purchase a boxed set.
See http://www.suse.com/us/support/inst_support/index.html for the Official Install Help !

Hello List members,
I have a machine that has SuSE 7.2 installed and running fine. When I boot from the 8.0 CD or the boot diskettes created from the 8.0 CD1 the machine freezes up early in the install process.
It always hangs up just after selecting the language, when it is checking the HD modules.
Here is the WEIRD Part: This same machine works perfectly OK when I boot from the 7.2 CD !!
This seems to involve the SCSI module for the Adaptec 2940 UW . Is this a real bug? Can I do anything
to get the 8.0 upgrade installed?
Thanks! .................PeterB
