Another weird thing is that I can print from my laptop to the printer connected to the workstation, but if I print the exact same document from the workstation itself, it won't print and I don't see any failures in the error logs.
I managed to print from the workstation that has the printer connected to it by setting up a second queue to the printer, but acessing it via the IPP protocal to itself.
It is still a mystery why printing directly to the CUPS queue does not work, but printing via IPP as if it is a remote printer does.

Guys, (and Gals) This may be a fix .. but it is not a solution... I have found that while using cups, the printing environment just gets confused every now and then. The fix that works is to restart nmbd, smbd and then cups. I have pulled my hair out over this. But, getting back to basics, just restart samba and cups and ... chances are ... your printing problems will be cured. -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E.
