I have 2 dual-boot machines sharing a DSL connection through a router (Speedstream 2614 four port). After re-installing SuSE 8 on one of the boxes and configuring the DSL connection, network card, etc., DHCP will not pick up an IP address for that machine. I have done
# rcnetwork stop # rcnetwork start
and each time, DHCP fails (says "no IP address yet - backgrounding"). I have power cycled the router, dsl modem, and the machines, and still DHCP continues to fail. (Sometimes it says it failed, and other times it says "done" but indicates that it didn't get an IP address yet)
On the machine which still has a DHCP assigned IP address, I can get to the router configuration screen (using a browser to the IP address of the router). The status shows that the DHCP server is "enabled".
Should I try a "reset" on the router? Any other ideas?
Try swapping the patchcables between the 2 machines. If machine1 gets an address, that cable is OK. If after swapping machine2 gets the address: bingo, cable broken :-) L1
