I posted a question yesterday about getting a SCSI tape drive to work. I am curious if anyone has any troubleshooting advice on working with an external SCSI tape drive, or if anyone has an idea on where to go to troubleshoot this message "st0: try direct i/o: yes(alignment 512 B(, map page reachable by HBA 1048575" it would be greatly appriciated.
I don't know where the problem is. I'm just sending the listing from my system with SUSE 9.1, HP Ultrium 460 and Adaptec 29160:
If I run YAST hardware info it displays the tape drive as DAT 06240-XXX Bus: scsi class (spec): Tape class: mass storage device ... (more stuff) Device Name /dev/st0 Driver aic7xxx Model SEAGATE DAT 062400XXX .... more stuff sysfs_bus)id 1:0:5:0
# hwinfo --scsi ... 25: SCSI 03.0: 10601 Tape [Created at scsi.1309] Unique ID: Er1e.BkwaBQpX5HA Parent ID: x0Ln.3+2aRN6ympD SysFS ID: /class/scsi_tape/st0 SysFS BusID: 0:0:3:0 SysFS Device Link: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0/0000:02:1f.0/0000:03:01.0/host0/0:0:3:0 Hardware Class: unknown Model: "HP Ultrium 2-SCSI" Vendor: "HP" Device: "Ultrium 2-SCSI" Revision: "F48D" Driver: "aic7xxx", "st" Device File: /dev/st0 (/dev/sg0) Device Number: char 9:0 (char 21:0) Config Status: cfg=no, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown Attached to: #15 (SCSI storage controller)
I have a 3ware controller that does all my hard drives.
I have it too (three 120 GB IDE HD in RAID 5).
After the system boots, in my /var/log/warn file I get Attached scsi tape st0 at scsi1, changel 0, id5, lun 0 st0: try direct i/o: yes(alignment 512 B(, map page reachable by HBA 1048575
Attached scsi tape st0 at scsi0, channel 0, id 3, lun 0 st0: try direct i/o: yes (alignment 512 B), max page reachable by HBA 1048575 I guess the "B(," combination is a typing error.
If I run mt -f /dev/st0 status I get the following (then the console locks, never to return)
driver type = Generic SCSI-2 tape drive status - 637434720 sense key error = 0 residue count = 0 file number = -1 b lock number = -1 Tape block size 512 bytes. Density code = 0x26 (unknown) Soft error cound since last status = 0 General status bits on (10100000): ......
