Hi guys, I have a strange problem. I realised that my PSU was either failing or just not strong enough (had all sorts of weirdness on my desktop) and replaced it. Everything seems alright now, except one: The last of the problems which cropped up, was that writing CDs, either with k3b or cdrecord on the command line, would fail around 150 mb into the disc, with a "medium error." Even blanking a rewriteable disc would fail. Now I've tried a few different discs, rewriteables and ordinary writeables, and made two coasters in the process, so don't think it's the medium. The output looks like this: Performing OPC... Blanking entire disk cdrecord: Success. blank unit: scsi sendcmd: no error CDB: A1 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 status: 0x2 (CHECK CONDITION) Sense Bytes: 70 00 03 00 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 00 51 00 00 00 Sense Key: 0x3 Medium Error, Segment 0 Sense Code: 0x51 Qual 0x00 (erase failure) Fru 0x0 Sense flags: Blk 0 (not valid) cmd finished after 201.183s timeout 9600s cdrecord: Cannot blank disk, aborting. Today I discovered that cdrdao works perfectly fine, which means the drive and medium is OK. So I'm wondering what could have gone wrong? The fact that it starts the burning at all suggests that permissions are OK, and if the cdrecord binary got damaged (filesystem damage, say), I would expect that it wouldn't work at all. Any ideas? -- Kind regards Hans du Plooy Newington Consulting Services hansdp at newingtoncs dot co dot za
