Two things to investigate. As the modprobe.d man page talks about, the /etc/modprobe.d/ directory had the includes and excludes listed.
A quick # grep -w install /etc/modprobe.d/* is useful
The second is, as always, the log files. The file /var/log/Xorg.0.log will tell you why the X server failed to start. Heck, the /var/log/boot.msg might also be interesting!

First of all, thank you all for your help. Hopefully, I will learn from your suggestions. But I desperately applied brute force: with yast i forced to reinstall all Xorg related packages, rebooted and with a great luck, I have my graphical interface back. Unfortunately, I still do not know whatt would be an expert solution to this problem.
