what does "host server" say?
host server tells me: 'server.rauch-webdesign.local has address 192.168.0.1' but i noticed that even a 'ssh server' fails like everything else.
Hi rauch,
rename your local net: ".local" is a registered pseudo toplevel domain registered for mdns responder. Try to disable mdnsd in the runlevel editor.

mdnsd is disabled, as i don't need Apple Rendezvous. I even disabled nscd for testing, since it once made problems on my 9.3 box. I will try renaming my domain to something other, but i thought .local was for internal domains not available to the inet, because they are not assigned to anything? Please correct me if i'm wrong! Thanks, rauch
