I got 10.3 installed using 640M, but was unable to get 11.0 past that same failure using that much RAM instead of the 384M I had been using. I'm also unable to locate any 11.0 system requirements statement saying anything other than 256M minimum/512M recommended. x86 vs. ppc apparently doesn't matter. Well. I have PC bearing the same problem. It's a very old PII with an odd motherboard I was recicling as a router. The symptoms where moreless the same as yours. It now runs with 10.3. I remember I went a bit further by messing up with the hard disk drivers, though I didn't manage to hava a booting machine so I gave up. I think 11.0 has some problems with old hardware...
