I wish to install xsane but YaST2 does not show it. In fact it refuses to list any uninstalled packages.
I believe this topic was just discussed a few days ago. Subject: "Where are the programs".
Yes that's right. But ............ Your advise is not the solution to the problem. I'm glad that somebody else has the same problem. I have upgraded to 8.2 and now all what I have in Yast are the installed programs. NO list of uninstalled. When I needed to install guile-gtk..... I had to physicly search all the cd's to find the RPM. I put the question to SuSe but no reply received as yet. -- Greetings from /bill at 169 west , 19 south.
The connection with the CD or DVD player must have been lost. In Yast2, go to Software > Change source of installation, delete the installed media and try to add them again. You'll probably run into an error message like this:
The source medium cannot be mounted. /dev/hdb: file or directory not found
If that is the case, make sure that /dev/cdrom exists, and is a link to the installation medium, e.g. /dev/hdc or /dev/hdd. Then you should be able to add the CD or DVD player in "Change source of installation".
If you're interested in an explanation, it can be found in the installed Support Database, keyword 'Installation source', subject 'Package Installation from the CD with YaST2 Not Possible'.
