MP3's have a mixed chorus--some folks say they're 90% of the original, others say they're 10%. I've played a lot of (live) music in my life, by which is to say I used to gig out on piano and guitar, and sometimes Dobro and bass, and most mp3's, played from my computer over a not-so-bad hi-fi system, sound pretty good to me. RANT ON: I don't mind the music companies making a big stink about d/l-ing of current music, that might, maybe, make someone legitimate money. What p's me off is that there are tons of copyrighted stuff that is all out of print, stuff from the 40's and 50's, and there is no way to get a copy of it except from the Net. And copyrights are designed to last far beyond your lifetime or mine. Part of that is due to the Walt Disney empire, BTW; since they were afraid of losing the rights to Mickey Mouse, they lobbied congress to change the law. Even before, it was ridiculous. Disney is protecting stuff from the early 30's. Enuf. RANT OFF --doug At 20:10 09/10/2003 -0400, lee wrote:
No doubt way to generic a question, but what is the hot setup these days in regards to downloading music, I don't mind paying a little..I had in mind a membership of sorts as a birthday gift for my 13 y o son,
further, are mp3's worth a darn ? better than burning them to a cd ?are they the way to go, as long as ya have a portable player?
thank you all very much for your time, I don't feel like I contribute my fair share to this list..the vast majority of what I see here everyday is over my head, but trying to change that a little everyday..
I'm on 8.0 if it helps..
