I already have gnome 2.6 from ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt on my SuSE 9.1 installation. Will I be able to update **sanely** to ULB Gnome 0.8? What's the difference between ULB Gnome 0.8 and Gnome 2.6 from ftp above?
ULB GNOME 0.8.0 is essentially a patched version of the GNOME 2.4 install in SuSE 9.1, so it's not really for installation over GNOME 2.6. That said, because of the way the package works, I suspect that if you install the ulb-gnome package and the ulb-themes packages, you'd get the theme and backgrounds, as well as the additional menu items, but without the rest of the customisation, since that's all now done in the various packages. The GNOME 2.6 install you're using is from the SuSE supplementary directory on the FTP server, which is not officially supported (which is why, at this time, ULB GNOME is not built against it). I guess, if you have a sacrificial machine to try it on - give it a whirl, I'd love to see the feedback. I may do it myself on an old laptop I have lying around as soon as I get a NIC for it. -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 9.0) GNOME updates for SuSE: http://www.usr-local-bin.org
